Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories have laid the groundwork for an unprecedented simulation of a large-scale botnet after booting up 1 million Linux kernels as virtual machines. They now are waiting for completion of a new, faster and more capable supercomputer on which they hope to run 10 million kernels in a simulation of the open Internet.

Microsoft: Gesture recognition office ‘not that far away’ (Silicon.com)

While gesture recognition, such as that seen in Project Natal can help gaming, Microsoft’s Craig Mundie showed how it will also transform the office. In a demo, Microsoft’s top research and strategy officer showed how the desktop computer of the future will use an entire office as both display and input device, with voice and gestures augmenting a number of touchscreens.
